Where Are You Now? (“the app”) helps you see which country your invited friends are in. We designed it to collect as little data as possible.

What we collect

• Name — the display name you choose at sign-up.
• Country and time zone — derived from your device location about once per day. We store your country, not your precise GPS coordinates.
• Passkey credential — a cryptographic key stored on your device and a matching public key on our servers so you can sign in without a password.
• Country history — when your country changes, we keep a log of past countries so friends can see your travel history.
• Status line — an optional short message you choose to show friends (for example, “In Tokyo until Friday”).
• Push notification token — if you turn on country-change alerts, we store a device token so we can notify you when a friend enters a new country. You can turn this off anytime in Settings.

What we do not collect

• No email address, phone number, or postal address.
• No precise location (street, building, or coordinates).
• No advertising identifiers or tracking across other apps.

Who can see your data

Only people you connect with via an invite link can see your name, country, time zone, country history, and optional status line. We do not sell your data.

Notifications

Country-change alerts are optional and off by default. If you enable them, we send a push notification when a friend enters a new country. Notifications are delivered through Expo and Apple/Google push services.

Location

The app requests location permission to determine your country. With Always / Allow all the time access, location is checked in the background when you travel so friends can see your current country without you opening the app. We only store your country and time zone — never coordinates. You can revoke permission in your device settings; the app will stop updating your country.

Data storage

Data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore) in the United States. Connections use encrypted HTTPS.

Deleting your data

Sign out and delete the app from your device. To request full account deletion, contact us at the address below.

Children

The app is not directed at children under 13.
